Welcome to Mrs Thurman's classroom page!
As an adult, I have truly loved reading all types of literature, but when I was younger it was rare that I found something that interested me. This is one of the reasons why I want to help students find something they enjoy. My goal is to help students see more than just words on a page. I want them to gain knowledge from stories and authors, knowledge to take with them and use the rest of their lives. I cannot give this kind of knowledge by myself. As a class, we will rely on several works of literature and ask the authors to show us what they know. Be Open.
I graduated from Belmont University in Business Administration and recently completed a masters degree in Education at Union University. I have two children of my own. One is a student at Lee University and the other is a student at Beech High School. We love sports in our house and I love any opportunity to talk sports in the classroom. I recently married. Before this school year I was Ms. Simms. My husband, Jonathan, has two teenage boys and we are now a family of 6! He is the assistant principal at Jack Anderson Elementary in Hendersonville.
Reading and writing will not be boring. It will take work and imagination. I believe in allowing students to think and share information as well as receive instruction so that I can continue to learn as they do.
